Located in the heart of the Chevreuse Valley, the Château de Dampierre is a model of classical architecture. It was built between 1683 and 1690 by Jules Hardouin-Mansart for Honoré d'Albert de Luynes, the son-in-law of Louis XIV’s minister, Colbert.
The residence boasts sumptuous 18th century panelling and was one of Queen Marie Leczinska’s favourite houses. Visitors can admire "l'Age d'or", an Ingres mural painting, and Cavelier’s "Sleeping Penelope" statue.
The basic outlines of the Dampierre gardens were designed by Le Nôtre. |
